Inspired by the mythical lost city of Atlantis, this mega resort on Paradise Island transports you to that fictional world in Bahamian style! At over 400 acres, Atlantis features dozens of restaurants, a massive casino, a marina filled with yachts, shopping mall, 11 pools, marine habitats with over 250 species, private lagoon, 3 beaches, and the Aquaventure waterpark. Whether you are booking a family or couples trip, Atlantis has something for everyone.
Atlantis is located on Paradise Island, which is only a bridge away from Nassau. The Bahamas are an easy flight from anywhere in the lower 48 states.
The resort is only a 25-30 minute drive from the airport. Transfers can be booked directly through Atlantis.
There are dozens of restaurants and bars on-site with a nice mix of take-out, casual, and fine dining options. All venues are kid friendly.
Atlantis has every amentiy you could hope for including numerous beaches and pools, a large waterpark, marine habitats including Dolphin Cay, a full-service spa and more. You will never need to leave the resort.
Atlantis has different vibes for different folks. From pool parties to relaxing beaches, you can choose to dial it up or calm it down.
The resort has one of the most unique themes you will find anywhere and perfectly integrates a massive marine habitat with a waterpark. The kids will love it!
This resort caters to everyone. You will see a mix of families and couples here including multi-generational families.
Atlantis is a casual resort. Dress is up a bit to smart casual if you plan on visiting the fine dining venues.
The Bahamian dollar is the official currency of the country, but the U.S. dollar is the official currency at the hotel. In fact U.S. dollars are widely accepted off premises as well.
The resort is completely wheelchair accessible. However, you may find yourself lost in a maze outside trying to find the proper path.
JetSetDNA brings you an in-depth tour of Atlantis The Royal Bahamas. Check it out for yourself on YouTube!
Atlantis is located on Paradise Island, which is directly next to New Providence island, the home of Nassau. The resort is a 25-30 minute drive from the airport and will take you directly through downtown Nassau on the way. You can book round-trip transfers directly with Atlantis and they have a welcome booth in the airport. Easy Peasy.
We have been to Atlantis numerous times and have never found a need to leave the resort, it has everything! However there are some additional restaurants and shops outside the resort. The best way to reach them is via an exit at the back of Marina Village.
You will need a car if you wish go anywhere else. The concierge can help arrange this for you.
The resort theme is inspired by the mythical city of Atlantis, which most believe would have been located in the Mediterranean Sea. However, this resort brings Bahamian style to the design. This massive complex transports you to a water world where marine life is perfectly integrated with the resort and Aquaventure waterpark.
The Royal sports a grand entrance being located directly on the marina. You will be greeted by massive yachts as you stroll down a huge corridor to the lobby.
The lobby is a grand atrium housing the front desk and concierge. The high ceilings and mural artwork make you feel as if you have entered an ancient city. The lobby serves as the central hub connecting to the casino, restaurants, and shopping. Down below, be sure to check out the Great Hall of Waters.
The Atlantis Casino, nestled between The Royal and The Coral, is one of the focal points of the resort with 85 table games and 700 slot machines. Bars, restaurants and Aura nightclub surround the casino and this area gets very busy in the evenings.
Shopping outlets can be found all around Atlantis with the bulk of the venues being located in the marina village and Crystal Court shops. More casual and authentic outlets can be found in the marina village, while higher end outlets grace the Crystal Court.
The marina village is one of our favorite areas at Atlantis. The village winds around the marina and is flanked by massive yachts. It is truly a pleasure to take a stroll through the village. Many restaurants and shops are located here. Live entertainment is frequently provided at nights making marina village one of the nicest places to hang out.
Back inside, the Dig is located in the lower level of the lobby along the Great Hall of Waters. The Dig is the official tour through the lost city of Atlantis and winds along the ruins lagoon with over 20,000 fish. Your kids will likely want to walk through again and again.
Atlantis has an entire program dedicated to kids adventures including interactive and computer gaming for older kids as well as an imagination station for younger kids. There is also an arcade in the kids zone.
Atlantis is a sprawling complex covering over 400 total acres including an internal lagoon. The grounds are perfectly manicured and wind around marine habitats with underground tunnels, rope bridges, and waterfalls. Taking some time to walk around and explore the property is highly recommended.
The marine habitats are one of the biggest draws of Atlantis. With thousands of fish, sharks, stingrays, turtles, and more, Atlantis provides an entire aquarium experience included with your stay. There are even opportunities to get up close with some animals, particularly the turtles. Feeding sessions are also available allowing you to get in the water with these creatures. The concierge in the lobby can make the arrangements.
Dolphin Cay is another big draw at Atlantis. The dolphin habitat is on-site between The Royal and The Cove. You will need to book an experience in order to enter Dolphin Cay, but you can still watch from a distance. Again, the concierge can help arrange a dolphin encounter.
Atlantis boasts 11 pools, which are integrated into the waterpark, Aquaventure. The Royal Baths pool, with the sun mosaic, is found right outside The Royal. Keep moving and you will find the Mayan Temple pool, which is connected to the Mayan temple with its’ waterslides. This pool is probably the most crowded at Atlantis, but is the most centrally located. For a more low-key experience, keep heading towards The Cove to the Baths Colonnade Pool. This pool is massive and has a zero entry end perfect for young kids.
One more thing regarding young kids, Atlantis provides floating vests complimentary at every pool in Aquaventure, so there is no need to bring your own floaties.
Aquaventure is integrated with several of the 11 pools at Atlantis. The slides are found at the Mayan Temple and Power Tower. Challenger body slides and a trip into the shark tank await you at the Mayan temple while several waterslide coasters are featured in the Power Tower.
The Rapids River is one of the best not-so-lazy rivers we have ever been on. The mile-long loop greets you with several rounds of river rapids and actually carries you upwards (yes, upwards is correct) 7 feet to keep the action going.
Outsiders can purchase day passes to Aquaventure, but we have never found the pools or waterpark to be overcrowded. A tip for day trippers is to book a room at Comfort Suites next door because Aquaventure is complimentary for guests of this hotel and can be considerably cheaper than booking separate day passes.
We stayed in the most basic room available in The Royal as this was a points booking through Marriott. Generally, Atlantis is not a great place to burn Marriott points, unless you stay at peak time, such as the holiday season like we did. Even still, the Premium Terrace View guest room is nicely appointed and will serve a family of four well.
The bedroom is spacious and is outfitted with two queen beds. The modern earth-tone design with pops of blue provides to a clean-beachy feel. There is also a sitting area with table that is perfect for charging up all gadgets with its’ two outlets with USB ports.
The bathroom is also spacious with a simple and modern design. There is a separate water closet for the toilet, which is always helpful for families. Toiletries are provided by Gilchrist & Soames of London and are replenished daily.
Our room was located on the backside of the hotel and the terrace had a view of the driveway entrance to the lobby. Even still, our terrace greeted us with a beautiful view of the gardens.
The room has a massive closet that has enough room to store multiple large suitcases, which means your room won’t get too cluttered. A full ironing board and iron are provided along with a typical safe.
Coffee is provided in the room, but the lack of bottled water is a disappointment. You will need to go down to Plato’s to get bottled water when an Atlantis competitor (Baha Mar) provides up to 4 bottles of water in the room each day.
The Atlantis is old, no doubt. Renovations have been happening at the property for years with The Royal east tower renovations completing in the summer of 2022 and the west tower completing in 2023. We love the new style of the rooms, but are disappointed because corners were clearly cut. You can see in the photos old hardware was reused as well as old doors that still had dings in them. If you are going to renovate, do it right!
Chef Nobu Matsuhisa brings his internationally recognized Japanese cuisine to Atlantis. Located off the casino, Nobu sports a contemporary atmosphere and contemporary dishes. This place is popular because the food is outstanding. Be sure to book well in advance.
Chef Todd English brought us Olives, located directly in the casino with a back terrace overlooking the marina. This restaurant was one of our favorites, but has since been replaced with a new Mediterranean inspired restaurant by Chef Alon Shaya called Silan.
Seafire is as traditional as it gets; a good, old-fashioned American steak house. Seafire is in the marina village and serves up prime cuts at decent prices. This venue is one of our favorites.
Bimini Road is a newer addition to Atlantis. It serves up typical American fare in a more casual atmosphere in the heart of marina village. The food and prices are good, so be sure to check this place out for a more relaxed evening.
Carmine’s is an Italian family-style restaurant serving up all the classic Italian dishes your heart desires. You will need to venture all the way to the end of marina village for this establishment, but the walk is worth it. This is family style and the plates are enormous. One entree plate will serve about 4, so don’t overdo it.
Murray’s Deli is another casual option located at the entrance of the marina. This New York style deli is open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner and serves up great food. We have found Murray’s to be an excellent alternative to the breakfast buffet’s. If a buffet is your thing, have at it, but we are not huge eaters and an a-la-carte breakfast at Murray’s is higher quality and cheaper than the buffet at Poseidon’s table.
Poseidon’s Table is the main buffet restaurant located outside the elevator lobby of The Royal east tower. Overlooking Ruins Lagoon with sharks swimming around the perimeter, this restaurant creates the perfect tropical island atmosphere.
Serving breakfast and dinner, Poseidon’s Table has a large selection of items to choose from, but with average quality. Breakfast will easily run over $100 for a family of four. Our advice is to skip the buffet most days and head to one of the casual restaurants.
Atlantis is one of the biggest resorts you will ever encounter and has plenty of amenities to keep you busy for well over a week. In fact, there are many more activities that we couldn’t even fit into this review including Mandara Spa, sports and fitness, mini-golf, wildlife feeding sessions, live entertainment, and more. You will always be able to find something to do at Atlantis.
Despite never needing to leave the resort, the Bahamas still have plenty more to offer. You can start with a half-day visit to downtown Nassau. Or, if you are feeling more adventurous, try some day excursions snorkeling, scuba diving, or paying a visit to famous Pig Beach. The concierge can help with any of these arrangements.
The front desk staff were friendly and got us checked in quickly. Having been to Atlantis several times, we have found they are always able to help us with questions and issues.
Housekeeping refreshed our room daily and constantly replenished our towels and toiletries. They came consistently in the afternoons and did a quick turndown in the evenings.
The people of the Bahamas rely on tourism for over 50% of their entire economy. Needless to say, everyone is very friendly and works hard to ensure all guests have a wonderful stay.
Atlantis is the quintessential family resort. It has everything families could ever desire for their dream vacation including pristine beaches, a waterpark with endless pools, thousands of marine wildlife, dozens of restaurants, and plenty more. Give Atlantis a try and we are sure you will find yourself returning again and again.
